I consider myself lucky to have a life full of amazing women, and when I started this 365 project I thought about doing a series of portraits of some of the women I most value. Since then I have done basically nothing to actualize that idea but recently my friend Krista said she needed some pictures for various professional and personal pursuits and asked if we could do a session.
So, you know I'm terrified of asking people to pose for me. I haven't the foggiest notion of how to do it without feeling like a complete wank. Luckily Krista just dove right in, so all I had to do was direct her to the light and she shone her beautiful eyes and smile right at me.
We did a variety of looks, from sweet to saucy to serious, and I think we got some really great shots she'll be able to use. But I took this one just for myself. Krista's smart and funny and a successful businesswoman, but when I see her I see the California girl at heart. When you strip away all the trappings of adulthood, she is most at home with the sun on her shoulders. Of all the ideas I had for our session yesterday, I knew I really wanted to put her right up against the sun and get a dreamy, hazy backlit picture of her. It's not the kind of shot you put on your professional website. But when I imagine Krista in her happy place, it looks something like this.
